This album was recorded in one day. It was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, 2015. I got up early and took a train into the city. It was about 10 am when I arrived at The Magic Shop, the studio where the album was recorded. Kabir was there already. I bought us breakfast sandwiches to eat as we got set up.
Once the mics were selected and everything was ready to go, we started to record. I would sing a song, drink some coffee, then sing another song. We did this all day long, pausing only once around 3pm to have some pizza and beers around the corner at Lombardi's.
All in all, 19 songs were recorded. These are the 10 I felt would make the best album. Why Pearl? There's a line in the opening song, "Young Junky". The line goes: "love is a pearl, we're all divers, life is a war with no survivors." That seemed to sum things up pretty good, so Pearl it was. Hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it.
